Waste Characterization and Disposal
MGF is committed to the safe management of hazardous waste according to the federal regulations specified in the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA, 1976) and State hazardous waste management rules. Hazardous waste management and recordkeeping are required for all generators, transporters, and treatment, storage and disposal facilities. This involves generation, transportation, treatment, storage, management and disposal of hazardous waste materials (cradle-to-grave). Regulatory fines in regard to hazardous waste can be substantial and place a continued focus on your facility by local and state officials.
When managing environmental field operations, investigative-derived waste may be generated from field sampling procedures. There are drilling methods that can minimize this waste when conducting assessment activities. The waste generated is required to be characterized through sampling and determined to be non-hazardous or hazardous based on analytical results. Tests such as ignitibility, reactivity, corrosivity, toxicity, and TCLP are standard test parameters to define waste characteristics. Once the waste is profiled, it is transferred with a chain-of-custody to a proper waste facility for treatment or disposal.
MGF has extensive experience with hazardous waste management and will deal with your waste efficiently and safely. Do not attempt to work with hazardous material if you are not experienced and trained. Proper planning will prevent potential hazards to health and safety when working directly with waste materials. A Site Safety Plan must be developed, reviewed and understood by all personnel involved with waste management at a specific site (OSHA Guidance Manual for Hazardous Waste Activities, 1985).
MGF can also provide training to site workers at operating facilities so they know how to safely handle and transfer wastes to proper containers for temporary storage. Workers should also be trained on how to respond to chemical spills safely and when a release exceeds their ability to deal with the situation.
